Savage Gear 3D Line Thru Roach 32 cm
The Savage Gear 3D Line Thru Roach 32 cm is a large swimbait for targeting pike. Its design is based on a 3D scan of a real roach. The deep body profile and natural swimming action make it suitable for anglers who want to present a substantial baitfish imitation.
Trolling a large swimbait
When trolling, you can use this Roach to explore different depths. First check how the lure swims beside the boat at your chosen speed. Then let out more line in a controlled way and adjust your presentation to the depth and conditions.
Remember that the lure sinks when you slow down or stop. It can drop deeper, which requires particular attention over shallow ground or obstacles.
Casting with suitable tackle
The SS version weighs 420 g and the MS version 445 g. Casting therefore requires a heavy-duty swimbait setup designed for very heavy lures.
Check that your rod’s casting weight rating covers the complete swimbait and rig weight. Your reel, line and connections must also be suitable for the load. A rod that can troll this lure is not necessarily suitable for casting it.
Which version should you choose: SS or MS?
The SS version sinks slowly. Choose it when you want to present the lure higher in the water column or at a slow pace.
The MS version sinks faster than the SS, helping you explore deeper water. Check both the colour and the SS or MS designation when ordering.
The actual fishing depth depends on factors including sinking time, speed, line length and current. SS and MS describe the sinking characteristics, rather than a fixed swimming depth.
How does the Line Thru system work?
During the fight, the lure body can slide up the leader and away from the hooks. This reduces the opportunity for a pike to use the heavy body as leverage to shake the hooks free. It can also help reduce damage to the soft plastic body.
Hengelsport 2000 tip
Check the leader, hooks and connections after landing a fish or freeing the lure from a snag. With a lure of this weight, keeping the entire rig in good condition is important.
