Savage Gear 3D Line Thru Roach 25 cm
The Savage Gear 3D Line Thru Roach 25 cm is a large roach imitation for targeting pike. Its body is based on a detailed 3D scan of a real roach. With its deep body profile and natural swimming action, this swimbait presents a substantial baitfish imitation for both casting and trolling.
Casting and trolling
Use a steady retrieve and mix in short pauses. These pauses allow the lure to sink and vary its presentation. When trolling, check how the swimbait swims beside the boat at your chosen speed before letting out more line.
For casting, use a swimbait rod with a casting weight rating suitable for the complete lure and rig weight. Match your reel, line and connections to this heavy lure too.
Which version should you choose: SS or MS?
The SS version sinks slowly and is a logical choice when you want to fish shallower water or present the lure at a slow pace.
The MS version sinks faster than the SS, helping you explore deeper water. Check the SS or MS designation as well as the colour when choosing your lure.
The actual fishing depth depends on factors including sinking time, retrieve or trolling speed, line length and current. Neither version has a fixed swimming depth.
How does the Line Thru system work?
During the fight, the lure body can slide up the leader and away from the hooks. This reduces the opportunity for a pike to use the heavy body as leverage to shake the hooks free. It can also help reduce damage to the soft plastic body.
Hengelsport 2000 tip
Try changing your retrieve speed and the length of your pauses before switching colours. This helps you discover whether pike respond to a different presentation of the same lure.
