Savage Gear 3D Line Thru Whitefish Shad XL 38 cm
The Savage Gear 3D Line Thru Whitefish Shad XL is a large soft plastic lure for pike anglers who want to present a substantial baitfish imitation. Its design is based on a 3D scan of a real whitefish. Measuring 38 cm and weighing 450 g, this shad requires a suitable tackle setup.
Paddle tail with glass rattle
The broad paddle tail creates a pronounced swimming action. A glass rattle adds sound to the presentation, while the detailed finish and added scent complete the lure.
Line Thru system
During the fight, the lure body can slide up the leader and away from the treble hooks. This reduces the opportunity for a pike to use the heavy shad as leverage to shake the hooks free. It can also help reduce damage to the soft plastic body.
Fishing depth and trolling advice
The MS version sinks and can be presented at different depths. The stated fishing depth of approximately 2–7 metres is a guideline: the actual depth depends on factors including speed, line length, current and any added weight. An additional eye beneath the chin allows you to attach a suitable extra weight to adjust the sinking behaviour.
At Hengelsport 2000, we use a trolling speed of approximately 2.6–3.7 km/h as a starting point based on our experience. Check the swimming action beside the boat first and adjust your speed to suit the conditions. Remember that the shad will sink further when you slow down or stop.
Rod advice from Hengelsport 2000
Based on our experience, this Whitefish Shad XL can be trolled with a suitable rod rated to cast up to 150 g. When trolling, the lure’s resistance through the water also affects the load on the rod. Not every rod with the same casting weight rating is suitable.
Important: this advice applies only to trolling. Do not cast this 450 g shad with a rod rated for a maximum casting weight of 150 g.
For casting, use a heavy-duty swimbait rod designed for the complete lure and rig weight. Your reel, line and connections must also be suitable for the load.
