The Savage Gear 4Play Classic Swim & Jerk has the slim profile of a herring. On a steady retrieve, each jointed section follows the one ahead of it through the turn. This gives the lure its flowing S-shaped action, making it easy to work along a reed line or weed bed when casting for pike.

Switching from a steady swim to a sideways glide

Cast diagonally along the edge of the weed and start with a slow, even retrieve. When the lure reaches a gap in the cover, give the rod tip a short twitch. Let the lure finish its sideways glide before you start winding again.

Using the slow sink on the pause

The 4Play sinks slowly when you stop winding. Keep it moving over the weed tops, then pause when it reaches open water to let it drop a little deeper. Adjust the length of the pause to the clearance between the lure and the bottom.
